Carla Buonviaggio

Carla Buonviaggio graduated with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the CUNY Graduate Center in 2010. Prior to obtaining her doctorate, Carla received her Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from Adelphi University, where she played softball for four years. Carla was the first pitcher in Adelphi’s Division II history to pitch a perfect game. Carla is well known throughout Staten Island for her success on the softball field. She was recently inducted into the New York State Softball Hall of Fame. Carla continues to enjoy softball and give back to the community through coaching and private instruction.

Carla is very passionate about Sports Orthopedic Physical Therapy. She enjoys working with athletes and post-operative patients alike, with the goal of getting them back to their specific level of function. Carla is constantly continuing her education and she likes to use several philosophies, including those of Gray Cook and Shirley Sahrmann, to give her patients the most specific plan of care to achieve their goals. Carla is very serious about patient education and its importance in the successful rehabilitation of her patients. She has many years of experience administering the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), the Y balance test and she is currently level 2 certified in the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) and level 1 certified in RockTape.
